Great inclusion in Garden Route Holiday

October 10, 2013

We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed this experience, taking advantage of the two game drives each day. All the staff are so focussed on providing a great stay and the game drive guides gave really interesting information. We were lucky. As the second day 17:00 to 19:00 drive was nearly done and we were about to return to the Lodge in the rain, the male cheetah that roams the entire park( apart from the elephant and lion areas), broke cover 25 metres ahead of our Land Rover charging up the rising ground toward the Springbok herd. His power and speed was amazing to see at such close proximity. Although we are all aware of how fast these animals are, to actually observe it was just wonderful. The accommodation, food and facilities are really good and we were very pleased that our package included this place.

Very nice!

Stayed here for only 1 night. The room was nice and clean. We saw lots of animals in the park, including the big 5. There is also a reptile centre and cheetah conservation centre. The dinner was very delicious and in a unique restaurant. The breakfast was also very nice.

Very enjoyable

October 10, 2013

We stayed 2 days and found this to be worthwhile (as opposed to a 1 night stay which the majority of visitors seemed to be doing) , we had a different ranger each day so the experience was different enough despite the necessarily limited number of animals. It was a good learning experience and we also gained plenty of information on the local bird life (prolific) and on the fynbos plants. Accommodation is comfortable and the included half board was functional – hot, tasty, filling. There were also some nice wine choices at reasonable prices. A particular thumbs up should be given to the bar/lunch spot which turned out stonking great plates of freshly cooked South African diner style food for an incredibly reasonable price – try the ostrich burger. Overall an incredible value for money break of great quality. Finally, thumbs up for the Cheetah experience which absolutely does not include petting, touching or walkies – fantastic.

Taster game drives, lovely lodge

October 10, 2013

Given the time restraints we had, this little taster was a lovely experience, offering a chance to gain fantastic knowledge from the amazing guides and a brief insight into the wildlife that desperately needs protecting better here in SA. Kruger it certainly isn’t. But it is a beautiful place and the guides are doing their best to give you as much info as possible, their aims regarding the animals here are all honourable. The 24 hour armed guard on the Rhinos here is a stark message that most of Africa has reached crisis point with their precious wildlife. Came away fairly quiet and contemplative.

Interesting tales & excellent food

October 10, 2013

We spent one night at the Garden Route Game Lodge conveniently located close to Mosselbay and not too far from Plettenberg Bay. We were met personally by a ranger at the entrance as we arrived for our evening game drive. Our ranger (Alec) was full of interesting insights and stories from his 17-year career. He had a sense of humor and painted the animals full of character in his recounts. We went very close to the lions, saw buffalo, hippo, elephant, eland and other antelope and I even enjoyed the facts about the flora. As we were leaving we saw 3 rhinos which are under 24 hour surveillance – the guard arrived in his bullet proof vest for the night; the rhino seemed to almost greet him. I must commend the Reserve on their efforts to protect their Rhino: thank you. We later warmed up with a sherry in front of the roaring fire place before we had an excellent buffet dinner (delicious steaks get cooked in front of you). A highlight on our stay there was the snake park and the Cheetah conservation centre – enjoy tales and facts, ask questions and be surprised. Definitely going back!

Emotional

October 10, 2013

This was our second visit to the game lodge and we were just as excited about visiting as the first time. We stayed for 3 days each time. Our rooms were lovely, spacious and very comfortable. The staff at the game lodge are fantastic, the food is superb and the game drives themselves are spectacular. The guides have so much knowledge and try to make sure you see all of the animals in the park. The drivers radioed each other to make sure all guests knew where various animals were like the Cheetahs and lions that sometimes like to hide. We were so pleased to see the new additions and saddened by the recent losses so quite an emotional trip. Would I recommend the lodge – definitely. Would we visit again if we go back to South Africa – absolutely.

Well run, great customer service, and great spot; we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

If you’re looking for a taste of safari combined with good hospitality and comfortable accommodation, then we would definitely suggest this, particularly for a family party or group. Trips around the reserve in trucks were great, with experienced guides and some real close up encounters with the animals (personal favourite – cheetahs!). Food was good – mostly buffet style with fresh meats cooked to request. All in all – highly recommended.

Halvorsen Party

Very well worth the visit will definitely go again, rooms are very nice, wildlife is amazing, unfortunately did not see leopard, but saw lion, rhino, cheetah, hippo and various buck and birds plenty of, the Saturday evening buffet is definitely well worth the price and quality, and quantity, breakfast is also well worth it as well, staff very friendly, and our game driver ranger, Byron, is very good at what he does well worth going on game drive with him, don’t know about other rangers but presume they are of same caliber.

Nice place

September 19, 2013

Stayed there for 2 days, nice rooms with lots of wildlife. A more safari like experience as the ranger will need to find the animals. An experience by itself with open top Landrover and Hilux. Loads of birds for bird lovers and free bird walks, free reptile center visit and free cheetah conservation visit.

Excellent spot to see the big five

September 19, 2013

Comfy large rooms- excellent food friendly staff. Knowledge of animals and made sure you got to see as much as possible. Easy to reach. We came as a group but all are welcome. It makes a good stop off on our tour of South Africa.
